In late August of this year, the City of Neligh received notice that it would not be able to use federal relief funds from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to repair Neligh's beloved Old Mill Bridge.
The City had planned to apply funds from the Swinging Bridge to the Old Mill Bridge repair. Officials from FEMA and Nebraska's agency NEMA suggested that the City use the funds for an alternate project. FEMA funds must be expended by July 14, 2014 or lost.
Upon much discussion, the City Council decided to apply the funds towards needed water line improvements for 16-17 blocks divided into 5 projects in the east side of Neligh. FEMA approved this use of funds. In September, the City Council approved plans and began advertising for bids.
In November, Rutjens Construction was awarded the project. The waterline improvement project will run from December 2013 and be completed by June 1, 2014.
If you have further questions about the project, please contact the City Office at 402-887-4066 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
