Pastries With Parents was a hit at Neligh-Oakdale with nearly 300 people attending on Friday morning as the West Ward elementary multipurpose room was packed.
Parents were invited to join their child for a breakfast of donuts, muffins, milk, juice and coffee in the school's lunch room from 7:30 until 8 p.m. If a parent could not attend with their child, another adult was encouraged to join the child for breakfast.
"We had an excellent turnout of parents," Principal Mary Schrader said. "We really have to thank Kelly Ptacek and her committee, along with the business sponsors, for organizing and making this possible."
Ptacek said more than 150 adults and 125 youth were at the morning event.
"We weren't really sure what to expect for a turn out being the first year," Ptacek said. "We tried this, and I was pleasantly impressed with our numbers. We don't have a final count yet, but I would guess we had about 275 students and adults in attendance."
Several businesses stepped up to help sponsor the event, Ptacek said. They were the Antelope County News, Blackburn Manufacturing, Lichtenberg Tire, Cubby's, Thriftway Market, Clip 'N Curl, Bangle Boulevard, Neligh Flower Shop and Three & Company.
"I would like to thank all of our sponsors for their donations whom helped make this event possible," Ptacek said. "I would also like to thank all the staff at West Ward for coming in early on a Friday morning to help support this event. I couldn't be happier for the turnout we had!"
