Neligh residents may be in the dark about not being in the dark on Tuesday.
Nebraska Public Power District has scheduled maintenance work on a substation south of Neligh beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, which would cause a typical community to be without power. Because Neligh has its own generation plant, Neligh will not have any interruption in service, according to Generation Supervisor Josh Capler.
“There shouldn’t be any blinks or anything. When their power goes off, we’ll go on. It’ll come back the same way,” he said.
Neligh will run on generation power from 9 a.m. until about 1 p.m. Capler said the reason for the outage is maintenance and bus work at the substation. Capler said he’s not aware of any other community being affected by the maintenance.
If Neligh would not have its generation station, he said the city would have had a city-wide outage for four hours and may have had to schedule the outage around the weather.
This will be the second time Neligh has been on generation without incoming power from the substation, Capler said. However, the City does a test run every month, and the community is unaware of the switch because it’s such a smooth transition.
“People won’t notice a thing on Tuesday,” Capler said.
