The attorney representing Darryl Lierman requested an expert witness be allowed in the case.
Lierman made a court appearance for a status hearing on Wednesday morning, and his attorney Ron Temple entered a motion for the appointment of an expert witness.
Much discussion ensued on the expense of the proposed expert before it was ruled that the expert would be allowed. Judge Mark Johnson said that if the expenses go beyond $7,500, Temple must get court approval before proceeding.
Temple also made a motion to take 17 depositions of staff at Richard Young Hospital. Johnson said the court would take it under advisement and would at minimum grant him some of the depositions.
The hearing to decide the time and place of depositions for the alleged victim was continued. The state, represented by attorneys Joe Abler and Joe Smith, provided the court with a letter addressing the status of the alleged victim who has recently been hospitalized.
Temple requested the state provide medical evidence from a doctor describing her condition, which was denied by the court.
