Neighborhoods all across Neligh were having fun Sunday night at the city-wide block parties.
Sponsored by Neligh Economic Development, the second annual block parties encouraged neighbors to get to know each other and have an evening of fun together.
"I was shocked by the amount of people we had participate last night," Economic Development Director Greg Ptacek said. "At the six parties, we had at least 200 participants."
Steph Wanek, Nate and Darcy Metschke, Brian and Tessa Hain, Chad and Tanya Shabram, Dennis and Jeri Anderson and Jenny Willits all signed up to host block parties.
Ptacek said one of the major selling points to small town living is that you know your neighbors and are part of a community. The block parties serve as a reminder to that concept being part of daily life in Neligh, Ptacek said.
"Every now and then, we forget that fact and get caught up in our go-go-go world. The Community Wide Block Parties are a great opportunity to force us to take a moment to meet our neighbors, eat some great food and embrace small-town living at its finest."
