For the City of Neligh to survive, it is vital that every attempt be made to continue growth efforts. In a very few years, LB 840, TIF financing, a strong Economic Development Department and a great community effort have been developed.
I have strongly supported all of these actions during my tenure as a city council person. It is my opinion that as a city council member, I must maintain a “big picture” approach and continue to make decisions that will move Neligh forward. I am a strong believer that we cannot allow a negative minority group to control the destiny of our great city. Please vote NO on the recall election Thursday, Oct. 15. Thank you for your support. Dale Wilkinson, City Council Member, Neligh, NE * * * Letters To The Editor are not the opinion of the Antelope County News. Dear Editor:
This is in regard to the corn that’s on the ground at the elevator – WestPlains LLC. The stench of that corn has been going on since Aug. 6 and it isn’t getting any better. I live at Pioneer Homes and am less than a block away from it, as are all of us here. I have never smelled anything so rank in my life, and when the temps are high, it’s worse! The only way to get away from it is to close all the windows and run the AC and don’t go outside! I’m sorry, but people shouldn’t have to spend the last month or more of summer having to smell this horrible smell. I’ve been told it can be smelled clear up by the high school. Isn’t there anything the City Council can do about this? Respectfully, Audrey Thiemann Neligh, NE * * * Letters To The Editor are not the opinion of the Antelope County News. * * * Dear Editor: In reference to the budget meeting, I read my responses to Jennifer Norton in the paper. I need to take a minute to apologize to Jennifer. I didn’t realize how abrupt I was with her at the council meeting. I was so shortsighted to address spending and not very objective to see that Jennifer was and is doing a good job running the library along with her board. If the budget was a concern to me, this was a bad time to speak to it in this tone. Sorry Jennifer. To the Neligh citizens: I have to ask what you the citizens need from us as a city administration. The past mayor and city council have worked on lowering taxes and putting together a good city crew. If we as an administration need to focus on an issue for you, please let me know. We have a great community. We will be moving forward and working together for growth and redevelopment of our city. Thanks to Bomgaar’s for believing in our town. Thanks to you folks for your support. Joe Hartz Mayor * * Letters To The Editor are not the opinion of the Antelope County News. I would like to give a BIG thank you to all those involved in getting the Heartland of America Band to Neligh (or is it Nell-eegh or is it Nee-ligh!) It was a wonderful, fun evening concert with something for everyone. Such a pleasure to listen to some extremely gifted musicians share their love of the art and the United States of America.
Bless ya! Janet Davis of Elgin * * * Letters To The Editor are not the opinion of the Antelope County News. I want to thank My Antelope County News for all the time and effort they have put in to get the truth in print. There have been a lot of facts being thrown around out of context. We have a great town that should not be torn apart by half truths or just the parts people think we need to hear. Again thanks for a wonderful job of reporting.
Walter Storey, Neligh, NE * * * Letters To The Editor are not the opinion of the Antelope County News. Great thanks to the Antelope County Fair Board and its volunteers. Also, many thanks to the City employees for their work to ready the park. We had many compliments on what a great fair and beautiful park.
It's a great blessing to see the Antelope County community succeed together. Thanks again, Joe Hartz, Neligh, NE Mayor * * * Letters To The Editor are not the opinion of the Antelope County News. I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank the businesses and organization who donated to "The Great Antelope County Scavenger Hunt" and made it possible: Dusty's, TK Drive-In, Butch's Body Shop & Towing, TJ's Market, Cafe Clearwater, Royal One Stop, Creekwood Chiropractic, Hi-Way Mart, Elgin Pharmacy, Anson Electric, Moyer's, Main Street Stylists, Jerry's Feed Service, Neligh Flower Shop, and the Antelope County Ag Society.
When I got the call from Carrie at Antelope County News Wednesday that I had won the grand prize of 4 tickets each to the Bull-Riding, Montgomery Gentry, Demo Derby, and Tractor Pull at the Antelope County Fair, I was thrilled to death. Knowing we couldn't use all those tickets, I decided to contact family members to see if they could. I felt like it was Christmas, giving them to loved ones. They were so grateful! Last, but not least, I would like to thank Antelope County News for the opportunity to play the scavenger hunt contest. You do a FANTASTIC job! I look forward to next year's contest and will continue to follow the news. Feeling grateful and blessed, Rita Shabram Orchard, NE * * * Letters To The Editor are not the opinion of the Antelope County News. Thanks Jane for twice exposing the “Real Bold.” What kind of company goes to media and brags about suing a small business or cries publicly that they are filing for bankruptcy. All this is for your ego and publicity.
This all started from negotiations. Jane was very unprofessional and changing things, many more things that aren’t mentioned here. We sent Jane a check for $3,943.65. This was 25 percent of net profit. We gave our lawyer the remaining tickets and all of the proof - the same information we had in November that she never showed. Jane, show my last e-mail to you from November. “Cash the check or whatever.” “If we have to hire a lawyer, it will probably be for bankruptcy.” I couldn’t be any clearer. We hired a lawyer, showed the facts and made three separate offers - all were rejected. Check $3,943.65. She never tried to cash this check. It was not bad; it expired. Does anybody think we wouldn’t be in court for issuing a bad check? It is a felony. 1. We would pay 25 percent, less beer cost - forget our other costs. 2. Twenty-five percent of total gross. This is what they wanted from the start, only they wanted projected sales - not actual sales. 3. The only reason for the third offer was because we had already spent $3,000. Lawyer needed another $2,500 to get through depositions. Another $2,500-$3,000 to get through court. Total $12,000 to go to court to pay $3,943.65. Even our lawyer was frustrated. He told us to check out debt relief. We filed. Bold’s lawyer called our bankruptcy lawyer and asked if this could be resolved. Really?! All Bold based this off, in their own words, was “They had a big truck!” She wants to be a politician. Lord help us! Lloyd R. Meis Neligh, NE * * * Letters To The Editor are not the opinion of the Antelope County News. The city council meetings are open to the public, plus video-taped live, as are the school board meetings.
So I am wondering, will you print the names of the petition signers? Marcella Hughes Neligh, NE * * * Letters To The Editor are not the opinion of the Antelope County News. Editor's Note: Sirens sounded Friday, July 17, at various times in several Antelope County communities; however, the National Weather Service did not issue a tornado warning at any time for the area nor was it in a tornado watch.
* * * It was quite a stormy evening and I found out a couple hours after it happened that the tornado siren was sounded in Neligh. We live a mile or so out of town and seldom hear the siren unless the wind is just right and it is calm. Is there a way that the Weather Service radios (ours went off several times) could broadcast information about the sirens when they are sounding in various towns? Or could something be done like the Amber Alert I got on my cell phone a few days ago when some children were missing? I don't have a "smart phone", maybe there is an app for them that gives this information. Just thinking about it. Thanks for your interest in our opinions and thoughts.
