On August 30th, the Village of Clearwater and Miller & Associates hosted their final meeting of Clearwater’s Comprehensive Plan.
During the meeting, the village discussed possible planning and zoning strategies. Throughout the meeting, the housing issue was a topic that was talked about thoroughly and was set as one of their number one goals. Within the housing discussion, the village heard from Gabe Steinmeyer who recently attended a rural housing session in Kearney where they discussed the new Workforce Housing Program. His input helped the village gain more knowledge about their upcoming decisions. Within their implementation strategies, the village discussed possible housing demolition, special house construction, duplexes and rental housing, single-family homes, and senior/accessible housing. They hope that these proposals will better their housing development in the future.
The zoning discussion centered around the final questions that needed clarification. The Planning Commission members have put in hours of work into formalizing zoning regulations that will fit the needs of the community. The economic development, community services, and recreational needs were within the discussions for the final document. They have had some tough conversations while reaching their decisions but have developed a final document that will protect existing property owners, encourage proper development, and along with the Comprehensive Plan and Housing Study, should stimulate investment.
The Clearwater Village is taking steps to schedule public hearings to approve the planning documents. The Planning Commission public hearing will more than likely be in October.
