Aaron D. White of Brunswick, who was shot by the Nebraska State Patrol after ramming a trooper's vehicle, was sentenced in Antelope County Court on Wednesday.
White was sentenced to 25-30 years in prison for his actions, which took place in December 2012. White will be eligible for parole in about 10 years. According to the Nebraska State Patrol, White was turned away from seeing his children at Zion Lutheran School in Plainview. White left the school and eventually went to his farm northeast of Brunswick, where he was met by members of the Pierce County Sheriff's Department and Nebraska State Patrol. It was there, White rammed a vehicle driven by Trooper Brian Detlefsen and injured the officer. Trooper Dain Hicks then fired at and struck White. He was flown to Mercy Medical in Sioux City with non-life threatening injuries and later extradited from Iowa to Nebraska. In October 2013, White pleaded no contest to felony assault and criminal mischief charges. White was going through a divorce at the time of the attack. The Brunswick Fire Department is responding to a grass fire five miles south of town Thursday.
Antelope County is currently in a high wind warning with wind gusting up to 55-60 mph. The National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley issued a high wind warning through 8 p.m. Thursday. Northwest winds are expected to at 30-40 mph and gust up to 55-60 mph. ---------------- The first was extinguished by early afternoon, according to officials.
